Scarlett Johansson was born on November 22nd, 1984 in New York City New York. She is an American singer/actress whose range has won her recognition across many genres - from thrillers and action films to period dramas. Johansson is born to an architect and producer, was born as a child in New York City. She and her twin brother Hunter were the youngest siblings of four. She developed an interest in acting from a very young age and was auditioning for commercials before age seven. To enhance her acting skills, she joined the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Manhattan and then the Professional Children's School. In the Off Broadway play Sophistry she acted alongside Ethan Hawke. She then appeared in her first film in North (1994) and was written by Rob Reiner, at age nine. Johansson subsequently appeared on screen in Just Cause (1995) but her breakthrough was Manny & Lo (1996) a coming-of-age film about orphaned sisters who run away. In The Horse Whisperer, Johansson as a teen victim of a horrific accident. Her role in Ghost World brought her more recognition as the troubled teenager Rebecca. Smith's parents helped her with landing her first acting role when she was just six. In a television commercial Smith starred as Dannon Yogurt. Much like many other new actresses choose to pursue, she decided to build her skills in theater. She would work in different USA projects while getting her stage debut in the company of Wildflower. Her education was at Stonestreet Studios, the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
